Settling in
SETTLING IN Usually parents make an appointment to come and have a look round the Ark with their child. We can arrange a convenient time to visit the Ark, where the manager will discuss your child’s needs while the key person can get to know the child. Every child reacts differently but a typical settling in process would be: First session: parent stays with child but stays in the background so the key person can bond with the child (there is no charge for this session) Second session: parent stays but leaves for ten minutes. If all goes well they may leave again for half an hour. Third session: Parent leaves after a short time but may return after a couple of hours. Fourth session: Full session We always advise parents to say goodbye as well as telling their child where they are going and when they will be back, so children know they haven’t been deserted.
